MORE ABOUT THE BOOK
The Eyes of Eshnunna: An Adventure in Mesopotamia is the first of a series of graphic novels intended to transport readers into a worldview of art, history, culture and adventure. Its theme is the understanding of the power and wonder of art, and its preservation.Through the eyes and adventures of a plucky and optimistic heroine, Compass Rose, the author hopes to dispel gloom and affect cultural literacy. She was conceived as a feminine antidote to darkness and ignorance; a means to inspire the love of life and art! Compass Rose is an art scholar and connoisseur. A Tintin-esque character with retro style. Curious and brave. Feisty and feminine. Not a super-hero! Her weapons are her brains and her charms, and her weaponized charm bracelet, lip gloss and perfumes, to name a few. The content of the series is most suited to high-school students and adults, but younger readers who are attracted to art and history will find much to enjoy. In this adventure Compass Rose travels to post-invasion Iraq to retrieve a mysterious cache of stolen Sumerian votive figures. Throughout the story readers will find images of actual places, artifacts and architecture from the country of Iraq, the cradle of western civilization. A glossary and hand-drawn map of ancient Iraq appear at the end of the book. The story's subtext, of understanding and preserving what remains of our shared cultural heritage, continues to be timely. In the light of the recent destruction of antiquities in the Middle East, it retains a sense of urgency. Compass Rose Voyager will be traveling to every continent of the globe. Her next adventure, Sanshu No Jingi (The Imperial Regalia), takes place in Japan. Look for it!
